Let’s face it, the only way you’ve missed what’s been going on around the world is if you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, and even then, I think some information may have crept its way in.
The #Coronavirus and the resulting #COVID19 has brought much of the world to a grinding halt and sadly thousands have already lost their lives.
Many companies are being forced to cut their expenditure in order to keep the lights on and pay their staff salaries. Most have stopped all marketing spend, but we are seeing that the savviest have maintained and increased their digital marketing activities.
With thousands of workers furloughed and the majority of the remaining working from home, digital marketing has become more important than ever as companies effectively have a captive audience.
Broadband companies are reporting increased usage*, so we know more people than ever are using the internet and digital channels to maintain their link with the world. So now really is the time to ensure your company is using social media, e-blasts, online advertising and editorials on online magazines and blogs to get your message seen.
We’d recommend sharing positive messages to try to counterbalance all the sad news that we’re seeing. Look at the large supermarket chains, the TV is full of comforting messaging from the likes of Marks & Spencer, who have created the fantastic hashtag #AllInThisTogether. On Good Friday they even gave away Easter eggs to NHS staff what a fantastic way to support the NHS!
We know small companies cannot be this generous, but you can do your bit by sharing positive content to help raise the spirit of your audience. Here are a few great examples:

So start thinking about how you can put a smile on your audience’s face, even for just a few seconds and we promise, you will be one of the bright lights shining in the middle of what is a very dark time.
